JOHN SWETT UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICTPara-Educator - Special EducationJob SummaryPara Educator - Special Education will, under supervision of the Director of Special Education (or designee) perform necessary duties of a responsible nature to assist in the planning and implementation of a program for students.Required QualificationsKnowledge of:District policies and procedures as they apply to curriculum and sound educational practice for a diverse student population. Child growth and development principles. Recordkeeping techniques. Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary, oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Techniques and skills for a modern office environment. Applicable State Education Code sections and other applicable laws. General understanding of different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. Knowledge of Special Education laws, procedures and process for special needs students.Responsibilities May Include:???Implement and monitor student IEP.???Work effectively while developing caring relationships with students.???Operate office equipment following proper instruction.???Make simple arithmetic calculations with accuracy.???Compile, maintain, and submit accurate and complete records and reports.???Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.???Perform clerical duties such as filing, duplications, keyboarding and maintaining records.???Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents and others.???Work confidentially.???Plan and organize work. Meet schedules and deadlines.???Assists in planning and implementing suitable learning experiences for students.???Supervises and/or participates in student activities (i.e. playground).???Assists in setting up and monitoring and cleaning up program facilities.???Assists certificated staff directly or indirectly in Special Education functions of the classroom, lab, and/or school.???Direct tutorial assistance to students individually or in groups, providing follow-up activities, reinforcing concepts/skills introduced by the teacher.???Attend appropriate staff meetings and in-service training.???Setting up work areas.???Preparing materials of instruction.???Provide assistance to students and/or teachers.???Assists certificated teacher in operating classroom and instructing individual or small groups of students.???Assists certificated teacher in developing lesson materials and plans, identifying students' needs and maintaining records.???Assists individual students in specific problem areas as necessary.???Helps maintain order in the classroom and assists instructor with appropriate discipline when necessary.???Performs class-related clerical work.???Assists students in use of computers.???Assists students in learning proper grooming habits and personal hygiene.???When requested, may attend meetings such as IEP, SARB, parent-teacher, etc.???Assists in feeding students, serving and preparing lunches, and post-meal cleanup.???Assists students with toilet functions - taking them to the bathroom, changing diapers, assisting students with cleanup and changing clothes when necessary.???Performs whatever duties are necessary to assure the health and safety of the students.???Assists students to and from busses, lifting students, and/or pushing wheelchairs when necessary.???Assists students in physical education and motor skill activities such as balancing, throwing and catching, sensory perception etc.???1:1 support/any training necessary to implement requirements of IEP.???Implement behavior plan.Experience and EducationGraduation from high school or possession of GED required, and one year of student related experience. Passing score on District competency test.Essential Functions of this Position???Stand for extended periods of time.???See for purposes of reading printed matter and observing students.???Hear and understand speech at normal levels.???Communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation.???Bend and twist, stoop, kneel, run and crawl.???Lift 25 pounds.???Carry 25 pounds.???Reach in all directions.???Perform a wide variety of specialized and responsible work independently; interpret and apply rules and regulations as appropriate.Other Related Functions of this Position???Other related duties as assigned.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
